Vacation over

I had a fantastic vacation, but didn’t make time to update this blog. I was busy completing a number of graphic design projects I’d promised to friends and associates. Since my work day lasts about 12 hours this was my first chance in a long time to catch up.

I didn’t do as much writing as I thought I might, but did start working out the setting for a new novel I’m writing.

I’m still planning on updates covering Book Expo, which was great, and Toronto Trek.

The Good

Though it’s Valentines Day and many on my LJ friends list don’t have good feelings about it, I got something that was the bright spot in my day; a home-made valentines day card from my little girl! (Made with some help from her mom) I took it in to work and have it on my desk. *grin*

And also, I had my interview yesterday for a new job (just in time too I think) within the same company. It was four on one, which was a bit intimidating, but I received a follow up today and they’re interested. I may be near the top of a short list. I’m crossing my fingers that it works out.

Absence due to family

A very long time between posts for me. Which is nothing new considering the activity in my life lately.

Monique is growing fast. She’s almost 13 and a half pounds now and about 26 inches long. She’s playing with her toys now and is vocalizing quite a bit.

We have new pictures of her which I’m going to try and post soon.

Updates, updates, updates, get ‘em here

October 31: We had a Girl!Monique Anne, born October 31 at 10:25 in the morning. She’s so darn cute.

November 4: We took Monique home today and spent our first evening alone with her. If anything this was more nerve wracking than her birth. At least at the hospital we had the nurses to fall back on if things were difficult or we had questions. Now it’s just the three of us for the first time.

November 8: Went back to work and found it tiring to say the least. I’m running on very little sleep. Since then we’ve fallen into a bit of a routine. I’m getting more sleep than the first few nights, which were hard. We’ve taken hundreds of pictures of our little one so far, and there are more to come I’m sure.Moniques extended family and our friends have sent lots of cards and good wishes. We’re looking forward to showing her off to more people, but not until we have a better handle on the feeding/sleeping cycle.

November 13: We’re sure she’s smiled at us. Maybe it’s gas, but it sure looked like a smile.

Baby’s room

We finished the baby’s room this morning. My dad came by to help put up the border.

Still no baby. The official due date is two days away. Everything’s packed and ready to go for the hospital. We’re pretty anxious for our new addition to arrive.

First week at the new job went well. There’s lots to learn: new acronyms, new processes, new software. I think I’m keeping on top of it all.

Unfortunately no time to write much lately. I guess something’s gotta give.

Been a while

So I’ve been busy lately.  Lot’s of little things and very little of an earthshaking nature.

One big thing (literally) is our soon-to-be-arriving baby. At her most recent appointment Liz learned that said baby is on track to be at least 10 pounds.

Apart from other baby-related preparation, I’ve been writing a short story, something I haven’t done in years.

I’ve also signed up for a course in advanced Photoshop, which I’m really looking forward to.

I’m currently on the council for the STC’s Southwestern Ontario chapter as Webmaster. So far it’s been fun and hasn’t been a huge time commitment, which is good considering I won’t have much to spare soon.

Work is work, and the commute is once again getting worse now that Labour Day has passed. But still, things are looking up for the next few months.

Baby moves

For weeks now Liz has been feeling increasingly strong motion from the baby, from faint fluttering to little pushes. Finally I felt the baby move for the first time last night!

Another first for the week

We participated this morning in our first garage sale. It was part of a street sale on our court. About six houses had stuff out and there was an amazing amount of traffic.

I was able to sell a cedar chest, TV stand, bike rack, two boxes of books, a BBQ tank (but not the BBQ) and other assorted little things.

All together we made about $80. Not a big amount but enough for a nice dinner out. And now we’ve cleared out a bunch of items from our basement, which is always good.

Pre-natal class

Liz and I went to our first pre-natal class last night. There were two other couples there who were as far along as we are, but the others were much earlier in their pregnancy. So some of what they covered in terms of what to expect was stuff we’ve already encountered.

Had a bit of a laugh when the instructor split the class into men and women and sent us out in the hall to draw the female reproductive system. It took us less time to do it than it took the women and we had the better drawing. We also had everything where it was supposed to go, unlike the women who missed one.
